Skill Builder Program

Here is the new Skill Builder Program, for 2009-2010!  All good musicians acquire a basic set of skills to assist them in their craft.  Understanding how music works…is constructed…build…and how to read it is part of that set of skills.  This series of exercises and games is meant to help develop your basic understanding of music and increase your ability to enjoy and perform as a singer.

Some musicians study instruments.  This is VERY helpful when learning to read rhythms and pitches.  Singers always have a harder time with this because there are no keys to push, strings to finger or slides to pull.  Singers must hear notes and rhythms in their mind’s ear first…and then recreate them with their voices.  This takes some talent…and training to do well.

Included at this site is a sequential set of lessons (games and exercises) that we are including.  Start at the beginning and work your way to the end.  Don’t spend a lot of time (unless you want to!)…but maybe a few minutes 3-4 times a week.

Have FUN!!!

Special Achievement Ladder

In order to encourage excellent attendance and participation in the Girl Choir, we have developed a system to recognize girls who have achieved a high level of success within the program.

Rehearsal Attendance = 10 points
Dress Rehearsal = 20 points
Concert = 50 points

Prima girls begin at novice regardless of which year they start.

Singers finishing 4th grade with at least 90 % of the points possible will be promoted from the level of NOVICE  to the level of APPRENTICE.  Singers finishing 6th grade with at least  95% of the possible points will be promoted to the level of MASTER as they begin their 7th grade season.  The level of MASTER carries with it a certificate of achievement and a commemorative award.

What to Bring to Rehearsal

Please be on time for rehearsal and in your chair…ready to make music!  You will keep all of your choir materials in the Badger Stage Girl Choir bag provided.  Be sure to always have your music folder and a pencil.  A water bottle is also highly recommended.  Mark your music and be sure to erase all markings following concerts and before music is collected.
